HIV/AIDS, Who Cares? @NUS

This program held in March 13th, 2008 by AIESEC National of Singapore University in Central Forum to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and HIV patients amongst youth through unique way. This program reached around 200 participants of NUS people.
We had several activities to achieve our objectives. Out first activity was invited all the NUS people to participate and show their awareness on HIV/AIDS issue through put their 20 cents coins on World Map that printed on 3m x 3m banner and break the Singapore Book Record with The Largest Display of Coins.
Then we challenge them to fill in the HIV/AIDS Quiz by Standard Chartered Bank to get to know their HIV/AIDS knowledge and we shared and had discussions about HIV/AIDS knowledge with them. The quiz was fun. Students would solve the quiz and would be very interested in knowing if they got all the answers correct. Most students did not know that HIV is treatable. We explained to them the difference between a disease being curable and treatable and gave information about ART drugs. Some people also had a misconception that HIV can spread through saliva which was clarified.
Besides that we also sell the flower that made by HIV patients to do fundraising and HIV/AIDS exhibition. In this exhibition we displayed the posters and pictures about HIV/AIDS. The displayed was very interesting and attracts more people to have a look at it. This was another way for us to do fundraising to raise more money with selling the flowers that made by HIV patients.

Coffee with Love

This program held in Geek Terminal at March 15th, 2008 to talk about HIV in casual fun setting and to encourage people to talk about HIV to their partners in a non-hesitant way. Our program started at 18.00 until 22.00 and reached 70 participants.
The participants were asked to complete the HIV/AIDS puzzleThe program started by welcoming everyone and an energizer. The energizer helped to build a rapport with the audience and divide them in groups. Next on agenda was the session on HIV/AIDS. A puzzle of 24 set of information was prepared. These cards were distributed among the groups. The facilitators asked the questions/statements and one person from each group who had the answer had to say it aloud to the audience. The objective of the game apart from talking about HIV was also to encourage participation from the audience. The game was enjoyed by the audience and at the end of it a beautiful picture of red ribbon around the globe was revealed.
After this was the time for dinner and coffee appreciation. Mr. Danny from Geek Terminal gave a wonderful talk on coffee, which addressed the link between coffee and HIV, and even on the difference between an espresso and cappuccino. At the end of the session there was a special demonstration on coffee making too. Dinner was excellent and was enjoyed a lot along with the coffee appreciation.

The event winded up with the acknowledgement of Geek Terminal and other organizers. As a mark of commitment to spread the word on HIV the participants were requested to pledge and keep the promise. Feedback forms were filled up and the evening ended.
